Lightning talk: Stefanie Hilles, Miami University and Sara Mautino, Oklahoma State University, “Sharing the blueprint: a collaborative hub for architecture information literacy”
Stefanie and Sara provided a fascinating overview of a US University initiative to create and populate an open-access lesson plan repository of information and digital literacy lesson plans, specifically dedicated to art, architecture, and design. This is the first time that such a repository has been devised. They were keen to emphasise that in the context of this initiative ‘lesson plan’ acted as a loose definition to mean any learning objects that might prove useful for others in planning a taught session.
The repository uses the Knowledge Commons platform which has several benefits. It is open-access (materials are indexed by both Google and Google Scholar), accepts a multitude of file types, and generates a DOI for each submission.

The project team have however, also noted some limitations in the Knowledge Commons platform. For example, it is not possible to create a discrete collection, therefore consistent tagging is essential to optimise discoverability. Additionally, it is not possible to upload multiple files within a single submission.
Stefanie and Sara’s presentation formed part of a programme of advocacy and awareness raising workshops and presentations. Conference delegates were encouraged to submit their own learning objects to the lesson-plan repository in the hope that it will grow and flourish. Written instructions on how to create a profile and then make a submission were covered in the session. Further details can be found at https://librarylessonplanartarchdesign.hcommons.org
