Guided architectural walking tour of the city of Sheffield

Marcus Newton, Sheffield’s local city centre tour guide, gave us a fascinating walking tour of Sheffield city centre.

We braved the rain to learn about Sheffield Castle, which is currently being excavated and its history brought back to life. We also saw the entrance to the Megatron, a Victorian storm-drain which runs underneath Sheffield city centre and Sheffield train station. Anyone feeling brave enough can book for a guided tour inside the storm drain!  I’ve lived in Sheffield for 20 years but I learned lots from the tour and it was nice to be reminded of Sheffield’s fascinating history, which is often lost underneath concrete and new development.
